What
type of pond would I prefer?
|
|
There
are many different types of ponds that you can build which will last
over a period of years. Ponds that we build can be broken down into
three categories and four types!
The difference in the three categories lies in the method of construction.
The difference in four types is caused by size, which in turn leads
to more complicated uses and filtration systems.
(Refer to page two for diagrams illustrating
pond types). |
| |
|
The first and most common category is one of a thick rubber liner
covered with river stone. This application works well for a natural,
moderate depth pond that can sustain plant and wildlife, but not Koi.
The potential of ammonia and bruising of the delicate fish is possible. |
 |
| |
| The
second and most supported category for sustaining a healthy fish habitat
is an installation of a thick rubber liner with no river stone. This
provides an easy method of manual cleaning if the circulation system
is under high stress. In addition, the absence of decay in organic
matter captured by small stones results in a more consistent habitat. |
 |
| |
| The third
category, which is a departure from the first two methods, is an application
using rebar and concrete. This method has additional steps, but uses
generally the same filtration systems. A concrete pond closely resembles
a swimming pool in regards to construction on a smaller scale. A concrete
pond is recommended only when the pond wall is load bearing, receives
high traffic (Commercial Use), or if the desired appeal is to be highly
formal. Often a concrete pond can cost double compared to a similar
liner pond. |
| |
| Can't
make a decision! |
|
| If
you are not sure which method you prefer, don't worry! Most pond's
construction are designed to fit the site or surrounding landscape.
With our diversity and your imagination, we can create a centerpiece
that appears as though it was always there. |

out pond types on the next page. The diagrams will illustrate what
additional steps are involved as a pond gets bigger and better! |
